Ag Students Shine at Tri-County Fair

Collinsville’s Tri-County Fair was on Saturday, and several of our own students brought home some hardware.

Laney Branen, a senior at Collinsville, won three awards, including breed champion Charolais Heifer. She also won first in the senior class with cross lamb, as well as second and third in senior class with goats. Laney’s younger brother, Justin Branen, was successful in getting first place in FFA division tractor driving contest. Justin is a junior at CHS. This year, he volunteered to organize a tractor pull for the younger kids, where they competed on pedal tractors.

Ashley Porter is a Sophomore this year and she placed third in Doe’s Class 7, and Class 8 with a fourth place finish.

A couple of our younger kiddos also placed this year. Chase Meyer, a sixth grader, placed third with his Dexter Calf and was Breed Champion with his Angus Calf. Jensyn Kite is in kindergarten this year, and showed two sheep for the first time. The rookie placed second and third in her competitions and was beaming with excitement. She said, “I had a lot of fun and Lily was my favorite sheep to show because she was super easy with me.” She said it takes a lot of hard work and she needs a break after all the hard work in the heat. These students did fantastic this weekend and we are very proud of their accomplishments.
